It took a little longer than we anticipated to tally these up... namely because there were some Caucuses who reported late. But we pulled all the numbers together and hereby announce the results from the December 7th National Caucus!
The drum roll, please....
Barack Obama Wins Democrat Caucuses .... and Ron Paul Dominates Both GOP And "Open" Caucuses!

Congratulations to all who participated in these Caucuses -- and to the candidates who earned their respect.

"On the Republican side, Ron Paul obliterated the field for the GOP generating the preference of 62.5% of GOP Caucuses. Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson follow, generating 33.3% and 16.6% of Republican Caucus preferences, respectively."
What does a "caucus preference" mean?
Because, obviously, 62.5 and 33.3 and 16.6 do not add up to 100.

Good eye Joe ... a simple cut and paste error here. Paul actually walked with 50% of the GOP vote. This brings the total to 99.9 ... as close to 100% as we're going to get without including fractional percentages.
The break down here looks like this:
Republican (6 caucuses):
Paul - wins 3, 50%
Huckabee - wins 2, 33.3%
Thompson - wins 1, 16.6%
POSTED BY: Ven ON December 12, 2007 - 1:10am
Still says
"Among votes in Open Caucuses, Ron Paul wins with 62.5% of Open Caucus votes, followed by Barack Obama (18.75%), Fred Thompson (12.5%), and Hilary Clinton (6.25%)."
POSTED BY: Joe ON December 12, 2007 - 1:11am
Ahh, a typographical error.
Can you also publicize the actual vote count and break them down by candidates?
POSTED BY: Myles Weissleder ON December 12, 2007 - 1:22am
@Ven - Thanks. I made the edits that should now be reflected. Perhaps refresh your browser?
@Joe - We're not slicing and dicing the votes of the individuals in each Caucus. (That would be akin to a primary!) We're only reporting who each Caucus voted as their preferred candidate (thus the term "preference"). Also, not all Caucuses reported individual votes, so we couldn't report it without leaving out data, which wouldn't be a good thing.
POSTED BY: Myles Weissleder ON December 12, 2007 - 1:36am
@Ven - I see you're referring to the Open Caucus tally. That stands as originally stated... those figures are correct.
POSTED BY: Ven ON December 12, 2007 - 1:39am
Is ABC going to pick up on this? I saw they had mentioned you guys in one of their articles.
POSTED BY: Myles Weissleder ON December 12, 2007 - 1:46am
@Ven - re: Will ABC pick up on this?
We certainly hope so!

Too bad this opportunity wasn't plastered all over the web, or at least on meet-up.
I would have loved to have hosted or participated in one of the caucuses!!
This is the first I heard about it, unfortunately.

don't believe the msm hype.
The Ron Paul Army is on the march across the USA.
We're coming for the huckster, Obama and all contenders!

I remember watching this on the news the other day. I was suspicious none of the stations meantioned Ron Paul's name. All I saw on television was Mike Huckabee #1 and Fred Thompson #2.
POSTED BY: ryan ON December 12, 2007 - 2:38pm
how many people would you estimate participated in these caucuses?
POSTED BY: Ronald J Waldron ON December 12, 2007 - 10:59pm
Why haven't I heard of these results?
Have these been on National TV?
POSTED BY: Will ON December 12, 2007 - 11:51pm
The open caucus organized by the Ozark Property Rights Congress Far Southwest Chapter was attended by 19 individuals including a local newspaper editor. Though invited, neither major party sent a representative. Voting on the favorite candidate returned 15 votes for Congressman Ron Paul, 1 timid vote for Tom Tancredo, and 2 who would vote for Ron Paul were he running as an independent that voted "undecided."
Though many issues emerged as topics of discussion, it was generally agreed that a return to a constitutional republican form of representative government, ending the United Nations and America's involvement in global government entanglements would build the foundation needed to solve most social, political and economic woes.

Had Hillary or any other Republican candidate besides Ron Paul won, we definitely would have had major news coverage........This is the first time I heard about it ...through an e-mail......

How many caucuses were actually held on Dec. 7, 2007, that these results were based upon? By my count, it was less than twenty.
Can you publish a complete list of exactly which caucuses participated in your event for verification purposes? For instance, did the SF New Tech Meetup meet on Dec 7, 2007 and caucus for three hours and report their findings? How about the Manhattan Swing Dance Meetup or the NY Tech Meetup?
If for some reason you can't find your way clear to publish this information for verification purposes, what is your verification procedure?

Please don't think I am being unduly critical here; I, in fact, applaud your efforts, but do you think this was a success?
You seem to have had less than 500 people actually participating nation-wide in this effort. There is, apparently, no real verification of results mechanism set in place. I have seen very little, if any, transparency about who actually owns this -- I guess it is an IRS 527 corporation. Even your own Meetup group failed to hold a caucus. Meetup staff who are themselves, Meetup organizers, and who encouraged other Meetup organizers to take part in this effort, failed to hold caucuses in their own groups -- which I find personally disappointing -- I could go on and on. What happened?

I went to all the MSM sites and searched for the results, found nothing! Have you had any ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, or CNN coverage?
